My Favorite Books From Each Genre!

Good afternoon you amazing readers and welcome back to my blog!

I keep my reading genre pretty diverse so it's going to be very hard for today's post of picking my favorite book from each genre. I have fantasy, contemporary, paranormal, sci-fi, dystopian, historical fiction, and mystery for the genres. If I missed any, I'm sorry but they're the top ones that I can think of. If I did miss any, please comment down below because it might be something I overlooked. But I've always wanted to try this...so let's get started!

    Fantasy
        ~Caraval by Stephanie Garber
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQtcdAyveckWOogaKfrerIN34NNv0950WVGjyRGNhIWCCTlMgqq5MKsdrtQQeldcaG_pyF0mJWHwY-WOJye6gCtJ4UZoGaixAk474EIAccYVo804jOHLGOzb_aBkHIabGjndWhyxaK6No/s1600/AddtoGoodreads.png">
Starting off with one of the hardest genres, it took me a while to go through my Goodreads shelf and see all the fantasy books I've read. Normally, I would go with the Harry Potter books but I want to pick something new and not as popular. Though it's still pretty well-known, and that is Caraval by Stephanie Garber.

From the very first page, I was hooked. Scarlett Dragna's father had arranged a marriage for her. One she was not that opposed, too. But being married away might mean Scarlett will never have the chance to see Caraval, a magical and once-a-year performance where the audience can participate in the show.

Scarlett was finally given the invitation she long dreamed for and with her sister, Tella, and a mysterious sailor, Julian, they set off to Caraval. Butttt when they got there, Tella was kidnapped by the mastermind and leader of Caraval, Legend, leaving Scarlett alone with Julian. Scarlett quickly found out that the fate of her sister depended on her winning that year's game. But the line between reality and the game blurred and Scarlett must figure out what was real and not real to save her sister.

Everything about this book was so good! The romance was freaking amazing. But I loved the relationship between Scarlett and Tella the most. Just seeing the sister affection and how they would do anything for each other makes me wish I have a sibling. The magical element was beautifully written and portrayed. It was strange but also dark and mysterious. The whole book was a mystery that made my head spin (in a good way). And the second and third books made me want to scream. Not to mention the dresses in all three books were beautifully described and it made my closet looks drabby.

I loved this fantasy book so unabashedly, Caraval is my favorite book from the fantasy genre.

    Contemporary

~The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson

Contemporary is another hard genre for me to choose my favorite but I did. I’ve never picked up a single Morgan Matson book until this year and after reading The Unexpected Everything, all I thought of was “what the heck have I been doing with my life?”. Morgan Matson is one of the queens of contemporary. They have a little fluff to them, but the story is also really deep and the romance is to DIE for.

In The Unexpected Everything, Alexandra—Andie—Walker’s whole summer plan changed when her Congressman father got caught up in a political scandal. So now, instead of going to the pre-med internship as planned, Andie was stuck at home. Worse, with her father who was never really around until now. She did things she never thought in a million years she would do—walk a bunch of very cute dogs, do a scavenger hunt with her dad (did I mention they don't have a great relationship), and possibly have a relationship with a guy for more than three weeks. Through all of this, Andie will have to learn to let go of control sometimes and that the best things in life?.....happens unexpectedly.

This was such a fun summer read. I picked this book up for the dogs and stayed for the story. I understand how Andie would feel when her plans basically went down the drain. Her relationship with her dad was awkward at first. But her dad was willing to try and that was all that mattered. There was a lot of family and friend drama and it kept the story so interesting. Clark could be super awkward and geeky but him and Andie....it worked. This is a thick book...but it didn't read like one. I flew through the story so fast and it was the first book I've read by Morgan Matson. Which then introduced me to so many other amazing books by her!

    Paranormal

        ~Cupid's Match by Lauren Palphreyman

Speaking of the best things that happen unexpectedly, I was not planning on getting this next book. While skimming the shelves of this great bookstore called Barnes & Noble, I came across Cupid's Match by Lauren Palphreyman.

I've never heard of the book before but from the synopsis, I knew I really wanted to read it. In a world where Cupids Matchmaking is a real thing, Lila Black found herself being harassed by them. No, it wasn't the chubby baby cupids with wings but human-like agents who were HOT. Lila didn't believe in soul mates and matchmaking...plus, she already had a boyfriend! But here's the thing, Lila's match was none other than the infamous and irresistible Cupid himself. And cupids can't be matched...or else. But Lila found herself slowly falling for the not-so-angelic lovegod as they run away from cupid hitmen...and the ultimate goddess of love herself.

I'm not a big paranormal fan. I think I've read a few paranormal series and none of them really stick out for me. If you have any paranormal recommendations, I would love to hear it down below since I like trying new things! This is a Wattpad original and it won the Wattys in 2016! I can see why! It was such a fun and action-packed book. So much more than I was expecting from a YA book. The author did a fantastic job of weaving mythology and contemporary together. Lila and Cupid were sassy and sarcastic and I love characters like that. I flew through the book!

I was just as clueless as Lila and I didn't mind since it felt like I was really there with her as she experienced these things. The romance was a little bit of "love at first sight". But I wasn't annoyed since Lila didn't fall for Cupid right away. I. Loved. This. Book!

    Historical Fiction

        ~Lovely War by Julie Berry

I've read a few historical fictions before but none left me so...heartbroken before. I'm not exaggerating! I spent fifteen minutes staring into space thinking over what just happened. There were multiple times where I wanted to cry!

This book follows two couples amid World War I in 1917. Hazel and James first met each other at a London party and it was an instant attraction. Hazel was a talented pianist and James was a newly recruited soldier whose dream was to become an architect. But their interactions were cut short when James was sent to the battlefront.

Aubrey Edwards was part of an all-African-American regiment that specialized in jazz music. The last thing he expected was to fall in love with a Belgian chanteuse (a female singer) named Colette, who survived a horrific tragedy at the hands of the Germans. These two love stories intertwined and were told through multiple Greek gods and goddesses. Such as Aphrodite (goddess of love), Ares (god of war), Hades (god of the underworld), and a few more. And throughout the story, the constant question that always showed up is..."Why are Love and War eternally drawn to one another?"

It was such a unique way of telling the story that I instantly fell in love. We followed the characters to France and England and even to the war front. So much happened and I adored the characters so much. All I wanted to do was put them in bubble wraps to make sure they don't get hurt. But...*heavy sigh* that's not how life works. There are many amazing historical fiction books out there but for me, this one hit the spot.

    Dystopian

~The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

If you don't know what The Hunger Games is, I think you are in the wrong place, my friend. It's one of the most iconic series of all time and it just happens to be my favorite dystopian series.

The Hunger Games was the series that made the dystopian genre so popular. Much like Twilight and paranormal. I've read so many great dystopian series but none of them were as good. I may or may not have hyped it up too much in my head but hey, I really enjoyed the books.

In The Hunger Games, we follow Katniss Everdeen as she volunteered in her sister's place in the Hunger Games, a TV broadcasted show where people fight to the death. In a place that used to be North America now laid Panem. Where 12 districts and the Capitol lived in harmony with each other! Ha, no. Because of a revolution over half a century ago, the Capitol decided to punish the districts by forcing a boy and a girl tribute from ages twelve to eighteen to fight to the death in an arena. Winning meant fame and fortune, whereas losing meant death. Katniss promised her sister she would win, but that meant making weighted decisions of life against love.

There's really no way to explain why I love The Hunger Games. Saying it's entertaining and fun sounds wrong considering what happened in the book. But it is enjoying to read about Katniss trying to survive while 22 other tributes try to kill her. Nope, that still doesn't sound right. Katniss was an admirable character. She was strong and she would do anything (literally...ANy-THinG) to keep her sister safe. She did have a few flaws but who doesn't?

The story went beyond The Hunger Games though, and it's followed by Catching Fire and Mockingjay. There was so much at stake and so many sacrifices had already been made. Now...the romance. It's not love at first sight but more of a slow buildup throughout the three books. I loved it and hey, Team Peeta all the way!

“Happy Hunger Games! And may the odds be ever in your favor.”

    Mystery

~One of Us is Lying by Karen McManus

One of Us is Lying was the book that got me started loving mystery. It was so enthralling and I. Could. Not. Put. It. Down!

Simon died 24 hours before he could post on his gossip site about Bronwyn, Cooper, Nate, and Addy. And each of them had a secret.
    - Bronwyn was a Yale-destined student who had never done anything wrong before in her life...right?
    - Easy-going, baseball star Cooper only knew, well, baseball. And he's suspiciously too good at it.
    - Bad boy Nate is one step away from a life of crime...wouldn't he be the perfect scapegoat?
    - Miss-perfect Addy is holding the cracks together in her perfect life...but what cracks?

Everybody has secrets. The question is...how far would one go to protect it?

The mystery and suspense had me hooked! All I wanted to know was WHO was the murderer. For some people, it might be easy to predict, but I'm pretty clueless so I didn't find out until the end. This was an amazing read and I haven't read a better mystery book!

    Sci-fi

        ~Skyward by Brandon Sanderson

This was another book that left me speechless. This was my first Brandon Sanderson book and I'm so glad that it was.

Spensa's lived her whole life in a world that had been attacked for decades. The only heroes left are pilots and that was what Spensa's dream was: to become a pilot and save the world. The only bad thing was her father was infamously known as a traitor and a coward. So her chances of getting in Flight School were slim to none. But Spensa wouldn't let that stop her. And with the help of an accidentally discovered spaceship named M-Bot, Spensa might just have the chance. Remember the beings that were attacking Spensa's world? Well, they were getting stronger by the minute. And the secret power that Spensa had might be what saves her world.

This was another action-packed book that I could not put down. Spensa was a determined character who wouldn't let anything get in her way. M-Bot had such a quirky and funny personality. He is definitely my favorite sidekick in a book. I didn't feel as if I was reading a book. It was like watching a movie that you can't hit pause. There were so many secrets and some of them were out of this world!

Those were my favorite books from each genre! I'm sure you noticed but all of them were books that had me hooked or moved me in some ways. I plan on reading and finding more books so this list is not that set. I would love to find more favorites as I read more books? What are your favorite books from each genre? Comment it down below!

Have a nice rest of your day!
